This module explores Human Rights and Ethical Dilemma.

Policing, the Criminal Justice System and Human Rights is designed to enable you to assess the current system in Scotland and to examine how emerging human rights issues will impact upon current and future policing practice and the Criminal Justice System in contemporary Scotland. You will be able to access various ways in which the interests of the police and other public service bodies may coincide or conflict with those of other organisations and how difference can be effectively resolved.  You will also place the development of legislation and police accountability in Scotland in its historical and international context and analyse the key factors which influence a human rights compliant police service.
 

Ethical Decision Making will enable you to identify aspects of decision making that are to be undertaken as a supervisor.  You will explore models pertaining to decision making and the ethical nature of these should encourage you to consider your role responsibilities further in order to manage dilemmas which you will face in you working environment.  You will develop an approach to decision making which is consistent with the organisation's approved model(s) and which ensures you are able to make appropriate, effective and defendable decisions.
